WHAT IS A GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY?

Gastric sleeve surgery is a surgical operation in which approximately 70% of the stomach is removed.
It is one of the most preferred and applied methods in the treatment of obesity in Turkey. 

 

In the surgery, the doctor determines the method to be used according to the patient's weight/fat status during pre-operation controls. 

 

WHO CAN HAVE GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY?

• Those with obesity problems.

• People who do not have a health condition that would prevent the surgery.

• People between the ages of 18-65. 

• Those who do not have stomach ulcers or gastritis.

 

WHICH TECHNIQUES ARE USED IN GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY?

Gastric Sleeve Surgery is a surgical operation performed under general anesthesia.

PRE- GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY PROCEDURES

• Before the operation, the necessary tests required by the doctor should be performed. 

• Do not eat or drink anything after the period specified by your doctor.

• Stop smoking one month before the operation.

• Do not take Aspirin, Ibuprofen and some vitamins for a while (two weeks – one month) before the operation, as they may cause bleeding during the operation.

• Avoid stimulants, green tea, and alcohol.

• Share information with your doctor if you have any digestive system ailments.

• Be careful not to use medications that may affect the operation recommended by the doctor.

• Do not consume high-calorie and high-saturated fat foods during the pre-operative period. 

• Start doing regular exercise in the pre-operative period.

HOW IS THE GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY PERFORMED?

1. The operation is performed under general anesthesia. 

2. The doctor examines the patient's body and calculates how much of the stomach should be removed.  After anesthesia, the doctor enters the patient's stomach from the mouth with an endoscopy device, opens a small incision in the stomach and performs the gastric reduction application. This operation is completed in about 60-90 minutes.

3. Depending on the health values of the patients, they can be discharged on the same day or they can be kept under observation for 1-2 days.

AFTER - GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY PROCEDURES

• Do not lift heavy objects for 2 weeks after sleeve gastrectomy and do not put any weight on your body.

• Do not smoke for at least 1 month after the operation.

• Drink plenty of water as directed by the doctor after the surgery

• Take B12, Iron, Calcium supplements.

• Do exercises that do not force yourself to increase fat burning. 

• Stick to the nutritional diet prescribed by the doctor.

• Do not consume carbonated and sugary foods/drinks.
