WHAT IS THE HYMEN?

The hymen is a thin, elastic membrane layer at the entrance of the vagina. When girls are born, they usually have a hymen, and this structure can rupture when they have sexual intercourse.

WHERE IS THE HYMEN LOCATED?

The hymen is located in the genital area of women, at the entrance to the vagina. Anatomically, it is a thin and elastic membrane layer located in the vaginal opening. Since the hymen is located just inside the vagina, it is affected during sexual activity and may rupture in some cases. However, each woman's hymen may be different, and in some women, the hymen may be naturally more flexible. For this reason, the hymen may not be easily detected by sexual activity or hymen examination.

WHAT ARE THE HYMEN TYPES?

The hymen is the thin and elastic tissue layer at the entrance of the vagina. It can take various forms naturally and can stretch over time.

 

• Thin Hymen: In some women, the hymen may be thinner and more sensitive. Such membranes can be more easily torn by sexual activity or physical activity.

• Thick Hymen: The hymen may be thicker and more durable. In this case, the rupture of the hymen may be more difficult.

• Cleft Hymen: The hymen can sometimes have a congenital cleft structure. Such a hymen may naturally be in the form of an opening or slit before it ruptures.

• Complete Absence of the Hymen: In rare cases, the hymen may be almost or completely absent in some women. In this case, the hymen cannot be examined and the presence of the hymen cannot be detected.

 

The hymen can take many forms due to the anatomical differences of women. However, it should be noted that the structure and condition of the hymen can vary greatly from person to person, and it is difficult to precisely determine the state of virginity before sexual activity. The flexibility and durability of the hymen can be affected by sexual activity or physical activities, and therefore, hymen examination is not a definitive confirmation method.

WHAT IS A HYMEN EXAMINATION?

Hymen examination is an examination performed to evaluate the condition of the hymen, which is one of the genital organs of women. This examination is carried out to determine the structure, integrity and elasticity of the hymen.

WHO DOES THE HYMEN EXAMINATION?

The hymen examination is usually performed by obstetricians and gynecologists. Gynecologists are medical doctors specializing in women's health and specialize in subjects such as the examination of the hymen. 

 

HYMEN REAR

The rupture of the hymen can occur during sexual activity or as a result of some physical activities. Here are some situations that can lead to rupture of the hymen:

 

• Sexual intercourse: The most common cause of rupture of the hymen can be sexual intercourse or sexual contact. As the penis enters the vagina, the hymen is stretched and may rupture in some cases. This rupture can cause bleeding.

• Physical Activities: Some sports, physical activities and traumas can also cause the hymen to rupture. The hymen can be damaged in activities such as cycling, jumping, gymnastics or as a result of accidents.

• Masturbation: Forceful masturbation can also cause the hymen to rupture.

• Tampon Usage: The hymen can also be torn when women who have menstruation for the first time start to use tampons.

 

The structure of each woman's hymen may be different, and in case of rupture of the hymen, the amount and severity of bleeding may vary from person to person. In addition, in some women, sexual activity can occur without tearing, since the hymen is flexible. The hymen is not a definitive indicator of virginity, and a woman who has or has not had a sexual experience may have a hymen.

 

WHAT IS HYMENOPLASTY AND HOW IS IT PERFORMED?

Hymen suturing, also known medically as "hymenoplasty", is the process of reconstructing the hymen in women who have been previously torn or not congenital. This procedure may be preferred by women who want the concept of virginity to be preserved or restored for cultural, religious or social reasons.

 

Hymen suturing is a surgical procedure and is usually performed under local anesthesia. During the procedure, the edges of the hymen are combined with stitches, so that bleeding occurs if the hymen is torn. It is recommended that the woman not have sexual intercourse until the area where the stitches are healed.
